DIY Electronics

Saturday 15th May 2010
Contact theatre, Oxford Road
4pm - 8pm workshop
10pm performance
£5 to be paid on arrival at venue (limited places available)

Build from scratch a DIY electronic instrument you can take home with you for only £5. An alternative to mass produced digital culture, followed by performance.

The workshop presents a number of key ideas relating to dirty electronics through the practical construction of a DIY electronic instrument from scratch, the Skull Etching. The Skull Etching combines etched artwork and electronics into a unique touch instrument. The electronics for the instrument utilise just one integrated circuit (IC), yet the instrument features two oscillators, distortion, feedback network, filter and interference/hum/radio.

The workshop culminates in a large group performance, of pieces specially written for the Skull Etching. No knowledge of electronics or previous experience at building electronic musical devices is needed. Instant noise on a shoestring!
